WATCH: Johnny Gargano Forced to Leave NXT Forever Following Final Loss to NXT Champion Andrade Cien Almas

After losing his third consecutive match against Andrade Cien Almas at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia, a desperate Johnny Gargano agreed to a stipulation set down by Zelina Vega that would give him one more chance at the NXT Championship. The catch? If he lost a fourth consecutive match to Almas, or was in any way unsuccessful in capturing the gold, Johnny Wrestling would be forced to leave the NXT brand forever.

Gargano’s final shot came this Wednesday night on WWE NXT, and despite coming within inches of winning the title, another assault by the injured Tommaso Ciampa would ultimately cost him his dream. As announced, NXT General Manager William Regal will force the underdog superstar to make good on his promise, and unfortunately Johnny Wrestling’s time on the yellow brand has come to an end.

Of course, that’s all in story. While we likely won’t know Gagano’s fate until next month’s television taping event, he is not expected to be called up to the main roster until after WrestleMania at the very earliest. It’s expected that if Ciampa is medically cleared to return in time, an angle will be set up to bring Johnny back to the show in order to set up a grudge match with his bitter rival at the upcoming NXT Takeover: New Orleans event.

THANK YOU JOHNNY! 👏👏👏👏👏@JohnnyGargano #WWENXT
